E.ON volunteers transform playtime at Coventry school
A team of eager volunteers from E.ON's Westwood Business Park offices recently spent two days transforming the playground at Wyken Croft Primary School in Coventry.
The team were tasked with revamping an unused area of the playground into a sensory garden with different lights, sounds and smells, as well as developing an area for planting for vegetables, where the children could learn and play.
Armed with a collection of gardening and painting equipment, the team transformed the area with an abundance of flowers and plants, and painted plant pots, playground tyres and anything else they could find in vibrant colours.
Martin Tranter, Site Manager at Wyken Croft Primary, said: "I'd like to say a huge thank you on behalf of the staff and children to all the volunteers for their hard work.
"They have transformed an unused dull space into a fantastic outdoor learning area and brightened up the whole playground with vibrant colours. The E.ON team worked with great purpose and humour and are a great credit to their company."
Cathie Hodson, one of the willing volunteers and key organiser of the event, said: "Taking part in this community challenge didn't seem like hard work, it was genuinely a pleasure which gave us immense job satisfaction and we'd love to do something like this again.
"We hope the new area will be an inspiration to the children of Wyken Croft Primary School in both their learning and play."
E.ON finds volunteering opportunities for employees across the UK, working with schools, older people and other vulnerable groups as part of its wider community relations programme. In 2009, E.ON employees spent over 8,000 hours volunteering in their local communities.
