Radcliffe on Trent school secures grant for sensory equipment thanks to E.ON employee

E.ON has awarded Radcliffe on Trent Junior School with a grant from the company's Employee Community Fund, thanks to parent and E.ON employee Julia Jones.

Radcliffe on Trent Junior School, which has around 260 pupils aged between seven and 11, supports the learning of children with special needs by including them in mainstream education.

The grant of £2,000 will be used to help buy equipment for a new sensory garden which will benefit all children, particularly those with special needs who may find the main playground intimidating. The garden will also provide a quieter area on sunny days for those children who find learning difficult to have one to one sessions with support workers.

Julia Jones, Senior Regulatory Analyst based at E.ON's Sherwood Park offices, said: "As a parent and member of the school's PTA I'm very grateful that E.ON can help in this way.

"This donation will mean we can press ahead with sensory garden's development over the summer months in readiness for the new term."

Steve Arnold, Headteacher at Radcliffe on Trent Junior School, said: "We're extremely grateful to E.ON to receive such support for our Sensory Garden Project.  Not only is £2,000 a very generous grant, it is not the only help the company's given us.

"An army of E.ON employees recently dug a pond and a path for us; a project that would have cost the school a lot of money.  The children, staff and governors will all benefit from the lovely work E.ON has carried out and funded and would like to say a huge thank you."

The E.ON Employee Community fund invites applications from employees based in the UK for funding of up to £2,000 for charities and community organisations that support education projects or vulnerable consumers.
