Scarborough charity receives funding for garden equipment thanks to E.ON employee

Healing Our Past Experiences (HOPE) in Scarborough has been awarded a grant from E.ON's new Employee Community Fund, courtesy of charity volunteer and E.ON employee Gemma Hardman.

HOPE is a local charity which provides a safe environment where survivors of sexual abuse can recover at their own pace while learning skills to enable them to move on with their lives.

The grant of £2,000 will be used to buy equipment to develop the secluded garden area. This will include a greenhouse and garden tools to help members grow their own vegetables and flowers, as well as outdoor furniture and a barbecue for relaxation.

Gemma Hardman who works for E.ON in the Yorkshire region applied to the fund and will be presenting the cheque in person at HOPE's Phoenix Centre on Northway, Scarborough, on Wednesday 2nd June at 11am.

She said: "The funding will mean we're able to give members the opportunity to tend the garden, which will encourage social support and give a real sense of community while allowing members to learn new skills and provide a natural environment where they can feel safe.

"The fantastic people who run HOPE are all survivors and are truly dedicated.  I'm delighted that E.ON is able to make such a difference."

The E.ON Employee Community fund invites applications from employees based in the UK for funding of up to £2,000 for charities and community organisations that support education projects or vulnerable consumers.
