E.ON submits scoping statement for proposed new Lancashire-Cumbria borders wind farm
One of the UK's leading energy companies E.ON has today (4 November) announced plans to build a new wind farm near to Kirkby Lonsdale, on the county border between Lancashire and Cumbria.
At around 20 MW the proposed Longfield Tarn wind farm would be made up of around nine turbines and could provide enough power to supply up to 9,000 homes[i] with power for up to a year and displace approximately 19,000 tonnes of CO2.[ii]
E.ON has submitted the scoping statement to Lancaster City Council and other interested parties outlining its plans, and intends to submit a full planning application in 2010.
Nick Taylor, project developer at E.ON, said: "It's still very early days for the project but we do believe this is an excellent location for a wind farm. Over the coming months we'll begin further studies in the area and will keep local people informed of our progress at every stage.
"It's through developments like this that we can change the way we produce energy, helping us to keep people's lights on, while reducing our impact on the environment."

We employ We employ around 16,000 people in the UK and more than 92,000 worldwide;
- We're one of the leading green generators in the UK, with 20 wind farms located from Cornwall to Northern Ireland. We own and operate one of the UK's largest dedicated biomass power stations at Lockerbie. Combined, our renewable portfolio generates enough green energy to power the homes in a city the size of Manchester;
- Our renewable development portfolio could power over a million homes and displace the emission of almost two million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year by building new onshore and offshore wind farms, biomass power stations, and tidal stream and wave power schemes;
- Our target is to cut the carbon released by each kW of electricity we generate by 10% between 2005-2012, having already reduced it by 20% since 1990;
- We have 1,300MW of renewable capacity under development;
- We are investing £50 million in new technologies and approaches over 10 years, through the Energy Technologies Institute;
- E.ON Group has announced it intends to reduced the carbon intensity of its generation by 50% by 2030 (on 1990 levels);
