E.ON helps customers to pledge now and cut 10% off energy use in 2010
Easy Online Energy Tracker and free PowerDowns for first homeowners and small businesses who take part
E.ON, one of the UK's leading energy companies, has today (TUES) teamed up with climate change campaigners 10:10 (1010uk.org) to launch a nationwide drive to help homeowners and small businesses cut their energy use by 10% by the end of 2010.
Customers are being urged to sign up to E.ON's FREE Online Energy Tracker to start the challenge at www.eonenergy.com/1010. Anyone who joins will be supported with a range of energy saving tools to help them understand their energy use, to compare their month by month consumption and to see if they can reach the overall target of a 10% drop in energy use by the end of 2010.
E.ON has 30,000 FREE PowerDowns to giveaway to the first customers who pledge to take part in the 10:10 challenge. The PowerDown helps save time and money by automatically switching off all of the TV or computer's associated equipment when the main unit is powered down.
Jim Macdonald, Commercial Director of E.ON's Retail Business, said: "Targeting our customers to cut their energy use by 10% by the end of 2010 may seem like a bold move, but we're committed to helping our customers rise to the challenge.
"We're proud to support 10:10 on the UK's biggest climate change campaign yet and urge all of our customers to pledge to cut their energy use."
As part of the 10:10 campaign, customers who use E.ON's Online Energy Tracker will also receive exclusive energy saving offers and advice on how to reduce their consumption throughout 2010.
E.ON is also offering its customers the longest capped prices on the market. Anyone wishing to sign up to EnergySaver 9 will have their electricity and gas prices capped until 31 December 2010 (1) and receive an Energy Monitor (worth £40), to help easily track their daily energy use.
E.ON in the UK is committed (and on track) to deliver an initial reduction of its CO2 intensity from all its activities, including power generation by 10% from 2005 to 2012, having already reduced it by 20% between 1990-2005; this is part of a much deeper Group-wide cut of 50% by 2030 (based on 1990 levels).
