E.ON presents prizes to budding artists from junior school in North Wales

E.ON's Connah's Quay power station has awarded prizes to talented artists from Bodnant Junior School in Prestatyn after they wowed the team with their entries for a picture competition.

Following a school visit last year, over 80 children from the school took part in the competition, which saw them design and draw information posters on safety and the environment.

The entries were judged by contractors and employees at the power station and the winners were presented with gift vouchers, an E.ON goody bag and a copy of the 2009 power station calendar which features their winning art work.

Martyn Blythin, Headteacher at Bodnant Junior School, said: "This competition was a great way to follow up the school visit to the station that the children went on last year, and it really fired their imagination.

"There were some great entries and the children were thrilled to be involved."

Tracey Hill, from the Connah's Quay team, said: "Health, safety and the environment are incredibly important not only in the setting of a power station and for E.ON as a whole, but also in every day life.

"It was great to see the children think about these key issues and come up with so many creative gems. Everyone in the team was overwhelmed by the response and we'd like to thank Martyn, his team and all the budding artists at Bodnant junior for making this such a spectacular competition."

Notes to editors:

  • E.ON is one of the UK's leading power and gas companies - generating and distributing electricity, and retailing power and gas - and is part of the E.ON group, the world's largest investor-owned power and gas company. We employ around 18, 000 people in the UK.
  • We're one of the leading green generators in the UK, with 21 wind farms located from Cornwall to Northern Ireland. We also burn biomass material mixed with coal in two of our power stations and have recently completed one of the UK's largest dedicated biomass power stations at Lockerbie. Combined, our renewable portfolio generates enough green energy to power the homes in a city the size of Manchester;
  • We are investing £50 million in new technologies and approaches over the next 10 years, through the Energy Technologies Institute;
  • Our green development portfolio could power over a million homes and displace the emission of almost two million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year by building new onshore and offshore wind farms, biomass power stations, and tidal stream and wave power schemes
