Local E.ON engineer awarded ‘student of the year’ trophy

The New Year has got off to a great start for Castle Donington-based design engineer Steve Ball.

Steve is celebrating after picking up the Stanworth Trophy for being student of the year at North Warwickshire and Hinckley College. To make a great first few weeks of 2007 even better, Steve has also been promoted by energy company E.ON.

30-year-old Steve, who works for the Energy Services division of E.ON, was named best first year electrical engineering student after successfully completing half of the course requirements for a National Certificate while on day release from the company.

And Steve has also now been promoted to design engineer, working on connecting newly-built homes to the electricity network.

“It’s definitely been a hard slog this past year, working and studying, but I do feel the hours at college are already paying off now I’ve got my promotion and I feel ready for the challenge of my new role with E.ON,” he said.

“Being named student of the year by the college makes it extra special and is great motivation as I work towards completing the course and getting my National Certificate in electrical and electronic engineering.”
