06 August 2010 11:59 Hereford night work to bring a more secure electricity network

Residents of Hereford are being advised of upcoming night work in the town centre, which will be carried out by Central Networks, the electricity distribution company for central England.

Essential work will be taking place from Monday 23rd August for a number of weeks so that a new high voltage underground cable can be laid.

The cable will run from Holmer Road along Newtown Road and Edgar Street, to the Blackfriars Street car park.

Phil Wilson, Customer Operations Manager at Central Networks, said: "The laying of this cable will help increase the reliability of the electricity supply in the future for Hereford.

"We're sorry for the inconvenience this may cause, but we'll be working to keep disruptions to a minimum. We appreciate everyone's understanding while this vital work is carried out."

Most of the work will be carried out at Monday to Friday from 8pm to 6am and temporary traffic lights will be in place. Work will start on Monday 23rd August in Holmer Street and progress along the route until all work is complete. The laying of the new cable is expected to take four to five weeks.
