09 August 2007 10:45 Central Networks helps Scouts take to the sea in landlocked Newark
Children at the 6
th Newark Sea Scouts will be able to learn how to enjoy the water safely thanks to a donation from Central Networks, the electricity distribution company for central England.
Darren Arnold, 25, of Newark, has worked for Central Networks, part of E.ON UK, as an Overhead Linesman for the past year.
Darren keeps himself busy in his free time by teaching children at the 6th Newark Sea Scouts kayaking and canoeing skills.
"I've been involved with the Sea Scouts since I was five years old and have been helping out as an instructor out since I was 16", said Darren.
"I teach groups on the weekends and during the summer months how to safely enjoy a wide range of water sports, including canoeing, sailing, kayaking and power racing.
"It's something I really enjoy and I've met some fantastic people through the Scouts, it's even how I got my job at Central Networks!
"The money will really come in handy as it will help us to replace our life jackets and buoyancy aids, so the kids can continue to enjoy the water safely."
E.ON UK supports its employees by recognising and rewarding the voluntary activities undertaken in their own time.
