Central Networks Press Releases

05 July 2007 13:20 Nottinghamshire pupil’s winning poster will warn local children to steer clear of danger

Thomas Wiles of Nottingham High Junior School has scooped top prize in a competition to design a poster to warn children about the potential dangers of playing near Central Networks' electricity substations.

Thomas' winning entry, which beat strong competition from across the Midlands, will now be turned into a full-colour poster and distributed to every primary school in central England.

And Thomas will also be presented with £100 in high street vouchers and family tickets to Snibston Discovery Park and the National Space Centre at a ceremony at Nottingham High Junior School on Monday, July 9th.  The school will be presented with a cheque for £250.

Anita Davis, Network and Public Safety Adviser with Central Networks, said: "Thomas' brilliant poster will be on noticeboards in classrooms and school corridors across the region and will help alert thousands of young people to the hidden dangers of electricity and encourage them to stay away from hazardous situations.

"Safety is a big priority for us and we've worked very closely with schools to make sure this was a fun, easy and interactive activity that would teach children an important safety message that could one day save their lives."

Central Networks offers schools a number of free educational resources such as the Power Discover Truck, a brightly painted truck fitted out with a range of activities designed to make it fun and exciting for visiting youngsters to learn key safety lessons.

Teachers who would like to learn more about the free resources should visit www.powerdiscoveryzone.com and follow the directions in the Teacher's Zone.
