Central Networks Press Releases

29 June 2007 13:43 Rugby Town Junior Football Club goes green thanks to Central Networks

Sports enthusiasts at a community sports facility in Rugby will soon get to enjoy a greener view when it benefits from a tree planting scheme after winning a grant from Central Networks.

The company, part of E.ON UK, has donated £2,500 to Rugby Town Junior Football Club, which has over 450 members aged from four to 18 who use the recently completed Community Sports Development at Kilsby Lane.

Phil Wilson, Customer Operations Manager for Central Networks, said: “This project aims to get all club members and local schoolchildren involved in tree planting to landscape the areas surrounding the sports facility.

“This’ll help teach the children about nature and how things grow, as they’ll be able to look after their own areas.

“We’re delighted to be involved in this project as it’ll not only educate local children, but also significantly improve the appearance of the area and provide habitat for local wildlife.”

The project is one of the winning applicants for Central Network’s £70,000 Safer Environment Fund, which makes money available for projects that demonstrate they will have a lasting and positive effect on the local environment.

Brian Crinigan, Secretary of the club, said: “We’ve only just finished building the sports club and we had no money left to landscape the area.

“We really wanted local youngsters to be educated about environmental issues and thought that the best way to do that would be to get them involved in tree planting workshops, where they’ll all be given a designated area to look after.

“The kids will be able to grow and learn along with the trees that they plant. We’ve all worked really hard to provide the local community with up-to-date sports facilities and are really grateful that Central Networks has helped us finish the project.”

The new fund for 2007 is open to all local community groups and not-for-profit organisations with their own bank account located in the Central Networks distribution region, which covers central England. Groups can apply for grants of up to £2,500.
