Central Networks Press Releases

29 June 2007 13:19 Central Networks helps to transform play area for children in Stoke-on-Trent

A derelict and overgrown area currently used for fly tipping will be rejuvenated by staff and pupils from a school in Chell Heath after winning a grant from Central Networks.

The company, part of E.ON UK, has donated £2,500 to Burnwood Community School to create cycle and play facilities in an unused area next to the school.

Diane Herbert, Head Teacher at the school, said: “There aren’t any play facilities in the area at the moment and the site next to the school was unused and overgrown.

“We plan to redevelop the site by creating a multi sports area, including a bike track which will be used by weekend and holiday clubs.

“Pupils, parents and residents will also be working with local artists to create a nature and art trail.  We’ll be using the funding from Central Networks to place wood, willow and trees next to the bike track to enhance the appearance and also to encourage wildlife.

“By working together we can hopefully ensure that this is an area that the whole community can enjoy.”

Phil Wilson, Customer Operations Manager for Central Networks, said: “We’re delighted to be able to support this project as it encourages healthy lifestyles and road safety awareness.

“The area will be accessible to children of all ages and we’re sure they’ll enjoy using the area for many years to come.”

The project is one of the winning applicants for Central Network’s £70,000 Safer Environment Fund, which makes money available for projects that demonstrate they will have a lasting and positive effect on the local environment.

The new fund for 2007 is open to all local community groups and not-for-profit organisations with their own bank account located in the Central Networks distribution region, which covers central England. Groups can apply for grants of up to £2,500.
