24 October 2006 00:00 Central Networks invests £250,000 into Coalville’s electricity network
Over 5,000 customers in the Coalville area will benefit from major improvements to the local power network thanks to a £250,000 investment from central England electricity distribution company Central Networks.
The work will benefit homes and businesses in and around Coalville by improving the reliability of their power supply.
Around 2.3km of underground cable will be laid by the company, which is part of E.ON UK, to reinforce the electricity distribution network and to make the system more robust.
Steve Bradley, Project Manager with Central Networks, said: “This project will ensure that the existing service becomes even better, but it will, unfortunately, also mean some disruption for road users while we lay the new cabling.
“We apologise for this inconvenience but I can assure local people that we’ll be doing everything we can to minimise disruption, including limiting the work to stretches of just 40m at a time in built up areas, working from 8am until 4pm and ceasing work between 22 December and the 8 January to avoid the Christmas period.”
Following consultation with the local Highways Authority, work to lay the cables is due to begin on 6 November 2006.
It is expected to go on until April 2007 with a two week break over Christmas to minimise disruption to residents through the festive season.
Work will start at Midland Road, Ellistown, before moving onto South Street and then Colliery Road. In the New Year, work will continue onto Beveridge Lane, Ellistown before starting on The Green and Station Road, Hugglescote.
Customers with homes and businesses who may be affected are being contacted by Central Networks with further details of the intended work.
This project forms just part of a five-year £1.2bn investment being made by Central Networks, a company of E.ON UK, into the electricity distribution network across central England.
