17 October 2006 00:00 Central Networks supports Birmingham youth football team in recognition of employee’s volunteer work

Youngsters at Beacon Colts Football Club are hoping for a successful start to the season as they show off their new kit donated by Central Networks, the electricity distribution company for central England.

The company gave £250 to the club’s under-14s in recognition of Central Networks employee Cliff Mahon’s volunteering efforts with the club.

Cliff, who works as a cable jointer for Central Networks, which is part of E.ON, has been involved with the football club for the past three seasons and is a familiar sight at Friday night training sessions and Sunday matches.

He first began helping out when his son, who currently plays for the under-14s, joined the club, and now helps with the under-9 team too.

“It’s all about getting as many youngsters as possible interested in football, to make sure they’re not only taking part but also having fun,” he said.

“We’ve been struggling for training equipment and kit over the last year, and this new gear will really help, particularly as we get into the colder winter weather.
“The players are a really great bunch, who train hard and love to play, so it’s nice to see their efforts helped by my employer Central Networks.”
