19 September 2006 00:00 E.ON UK staff turn bakers to cook up funds for young Boro

Big-hearted staff at energy company E.ON UK have raised £570 towards the treatment costs of six-year old Batten disease-sufferer Boro Jankovic, after reading about his condition in the Times & Citizen.

A handful of the Bedford-based staff responded quickly after seeing the article and organised a cake sale for colleagues at the company’s site on the Elms Farm Industrial Estate to raise £285.

This figure was matched by the company to boost the total donated to Boro and his parents to £570.

Patricia Walker, from Goldington, Bedford, has worked for E.ON for three years and helped to organise the fundraising event.

“One of my colleagues at E.ON lives near Boro, and asked if I could think of some way for the staff to contribute something towards the cost of his treatment”, she said.

“The canteen made a big chocolate cake and several people brought in their own cakes to sell.

“Not many people can refuse a homemade cake, but more importantly, this was a quick and easy way for us to help Boro. It’s fantastic that E.ON has doubled the sum we raised as it means more money, and more treatment, for Boro.”
