Central Networks Press Releases

01 August 2006 00:00 Central Networks’ safety roadshow is a show stopper

Central Networks’ safety roadshow is stopping off at the Bakewell Show in Derbyshire this week to bring essential electricity safety advice to people of all ages.

Young visitors will have the opportunity to climb aboard the Power Discovery Truck, designed especially to appeal to children and learn about the dangers of electricity in a fun way.

For adults Central Networks, the electricity distribution company for central England, has created a unique safety trailer which includes information on how to stay safe around electricity in the home and at work.

Anita Davis, Central Networks’ Network and Public Safety Adviser, said: “Across the UK over 350 people, many of them children, are hurt each year through the misuse of electricity, so we really want everyone to understand the dangers involved.

“By attending events like the Bakewell Show we aim to get across our message in a fun and exciting way, and ensure everyone understands that electricity should be treated with respect.“

As well as picking up important safety advice, visitors to the show will be able to pick up a free goody bag - which includes the ‘World’s Smallest Kite’.

Anita said: “We hope that our safety roadshow will prove a hit with the shows visitors.

“Children can play with the interactive displays, games and quizzes on the truck, while mums and dads are free to find out more about electricity safety from our trailer.”

The Power Discovery Truck is a free educational resource for primary schools across the Midlands region. Anyone who would like the roadshow to visit their school, safety event or show can call 01332 39 38 49 or visit www.powerdiscoveryzone.com and follow the directions in the Teacher’s Zone. Teachers can also find out about our children’s poster competition from the website.
