08 June 2006 00:00 Central Networks completes £2.3 million investment work on substation to help power up Cannock
Customers living in Cannock are benefiting from an extra boost to their electricity supply as Central Networks completes work on a £2.3m investment project for its local network.
Work began early last year to reinforce the local electricity network, ensuring it can provide power to new housing and business developments as they are built.
Central Networks, which is part of E.ON UK, has fitted an additional transformer and other new equipment to an existing substation in York Road, Cannock.
Around 37,000 homes and businesses in the town are already being supplied with electricity from the substation, in the Rumer Hill area to the south east of the town centre.
Kevin Lowe, Contract Delivery Manager with Central Networks, said: “This was a significant piece of work for us, reinforcing supplies to around 37,000 customers in Cannock and providing additional capacity.
“As well as improving the service for our existing customers, this work means that we will be able to support the town’s growth in the coming years as new developments are completed.”
The completed work in Cannock forms just part of a five-year £1.2bn investment being made by Central Networks into the electricity distribution network across central England.
