Central Networks Press Releases

13 April 2006 00:00 Central Networks signs £100m contracts to deliver £1.2bn investment on electricity network across central England

Central Networks, the electricity distribution company for central England, has signed £122.5m contract options with four energy service providers to help deliver its largest ever investment programme.

The contracts, with Integrated Utility Services, Alfred McAlpine, Morgan Est and Balfour Beatty Power Networks, will support the delivery of its investment and maintenance programmes on the electricity network across central England.

The contracts will also support Energy Services, Central Networks’ sister company under the E.ON banner, and help connect both new domestic and commercial customers to the electricity network.

Central Networks Managing Director Bob Taylor said: “These are major contracts, which reflect the importance of the work we’re carrying out across central England.

“These investments are all part and parcel of our £1.2bn programme that means we’ll be putting in new wires and substations across central England as we update and upgrade the network to ensure our 4.9 million customers get the service they deserve.”

All four service providers will play a vital role in helping the business to deliver its investment programme and also connect new customers.

Integrated Utility Services and Alfred McAlpine will support the inspection and maintenance of the network, deliver capital investment and connect new customers for Energy Services.

Infrastructure services company Morgan Est and Balfour Beatty Power Networks will carry out investment and repair work as well as connecting new domestic customers and supporting public lighting installations for Energy Services.

Bob said: “Our service providers will support our own strong team to improve and maintain a network which is expanding all the time to meet the needs and demands of our customers.

“From carrying out essential repairs to installing new substations, our service providers and the Central Networks team are committed to delivering a sustained and improved electricity network.“

The contracts are an extension of existing contracts under an option arrangement. The contracts with the four suppliers are expected to be worth in excess of £400m over the four year contract term with an option to extend the agreements for a further five years.
