Central Networks Press Releases

09 November 2005 00:00 Central Networks invests £15m in new electricity substation for Nottingham

It served the city well for over half a century and was a landmark on the city’s skyline but now the veteran Queen’s Drive substation is about to come down and be replaced by a state of the art facility.

As part of a multi-million pound investment programme for Nottinghamshire’s electricity network, Central Networks, the electricity distribution company for central England, will be dismantling the old substation over the next eight weeks.

The new substation is a third of the size of the current structure and sits in a specially designed building.

Central Networks Projects Group Manager Michael Dunne said: “This has been a major project for us and shows our ongoing commitment to investment in Nottingham’s electricity supply.

“It’s testament to the hard work and skills of our engineers that this project has been finished on time and on budget.

“They’ve ensured a seamless transition between the old and the new, so our customers won’t even have noticed that their power is now being supplied by a new and improved substation - although they will certainly notice the disappearance of the old structures.”

This £15m project in Nottingham is just part of a £1.2bn investment in the region’s electricity network being made by Central Networks, which is part of E.ON UK, over the next four years.
