21 June 2005 00:00 Central Networks’ new Power Discovery Truck hits the roads in Lincolnshire
Children across Lincolnshire should get ready; the Power Discovery Truck is hitting the roads in their area this week.
It’s Central Networks’ new electricity safety vehicle and you can’t miss it - it’s big, bold and bright and has been designed to teach local children about the very real danger that electricity presents in daily life.
For its maiden voyage the new Power Discovery Truck, which is painted top to bottom with colourful characters like Max Wattage and Buzzy Bee, will visit the Lincolnshire Show at the Lincolnshire Showground in Lincoln on June 22nd and June 23rd 2005.
David Welbourne, Central Networks’ Network and Public Safety Adviser, said: “Safety is a top priority for Central Networks and the new Power Discovery Truck plays an important part in our overall safety programme and demonstrates our commitment to delivering it.
“This is essential when you consider that throughout the UK around 120 children are injured in electricity-related incidents each year.
“This new truck allows us to communicate serious messages in a fun environment. The children who visit the truck will have a great day out as well as learning key safety lessons about the possible hazards of electricity in an interesting and easy to understand way.”
With the emphasis on fun learning, there are lots of educational games for the youngsters to get involved in.
Once onboard they’ll be able to play laptop games to identify hazards, watch a safety video and build electrical circuits with buzzers, motors and lights. The truck also houses its very own ‘Hazard Valley’ – a large model landscape featuring urban and rural scenes full of potential hazards for children to spot.
The new truck replaces the Power Discovery Bus which was launched in May 2001 and was the first vehicle of its kind in the UK electricity distribution industry.
In its lifetime the bus visited 740 schools, with over 22,000 children climbing onboard.
The Power Discovery Truck is a free educational resource for primary schools across the East Midlands region. Anyone who would like the truck to visit their school, safety event or show can call 01332 39 38 49 or visit www.powerdiscoveryzone.com and follow the directions in the Teacher’s Zone.
