Central Networks helps local schoolchildren to become record breakers

Central Networks is helping local school children to become record breakers at this summer’s West Midlands Show.

The company, which operates the electricity distribution network in central England, is sponsoring an attempt by Shropshire schools to create the record for the Midlands’ longest Chinese dragon.

Schools in the area* will build and decorate their own part of the dragon with materials provided by Central Networks. Each segment will then be joined together at the show on Saturday June 25 to create a single giant dragon.

Anita Davis, Central Networks’ Public Safety Adviser, said: “We wish all the schools taking part the very best of luck with their record attempt and we’re pleased to be sponsoring such a fun and creative event.

“Being part of the West Midlands Show is also a great opportunity for us to get important electricity safety messages across to the public.

“Across the UK over 350 people are hurt each year through the misuse of electricity, so we really want to help everyone understand that electricity is normally very safe, but it has to be treated with respect.
“We’ll have our two dedicated safety vehicles, the Community Safety Trailer and the Power Discovery Truck, at the show and safety experts will on hand to offer safety tips and advice.”

The Community Safety Trailer takes electrical safety education out into the community, covering a range of topics from safety in agriculture and industry to safety in the home and at play. The Power Discovery Truck is designed to appeal to children and teach them about the dangers of electricity in a fun and easy to understand way.

The record attempt will take place at the County Showground in Shrewsbury on Saturday June 25, with the entire show taking place over the weekend of June 25 and 26.
