Central Networks Press Releases

08 July 2004 00:00 More than 100,000 customers back on power in Central Networks region (1200hrs)

Engineers from Central Networks continue to work to get the last remaining 3,000 customers without power back on supply, having already restored more than 100,000 customers after yesterday’s freak summer storm.

In the East Midlands around 3,000 customers are still without power, with the situation in the West Midlands pretty much back to normal, with a few problem pockets being dealt with by engineers.

Customers in the East Midlands who are still without power should ring 0800 056 8090. Customers in the West Midlands who are still without power should ring 08457 331 331.

Bob Taylor, Managing Director of Central Networks, said: “Our engineers have done a fantastic job, they’ve moved extremely quickly to get so many people back on in less than 24 hours.

“It’s very much a mopping up operation now, with engineers moving from site to site to get people back on.

“The problem we’ve had has been a large number of small faults and we simply have to get out on the road and get to all of them, which is what we’re doing now.

“Our number one priority’s always to get customers back on safely and that’s what we’ve been doing, both last night and again today.”

As at 1200hrs, around 800 customers were off in Derbyshire and around 300 in Lincolnshire. There were no major problems in the West.
