16 June 2004 00:00 Reed-y, steady, go for Central Networks Communications team
A team from the Communications Department at Central Networks, the electricity wires business for the East and West Midlands, has done its bid for local birds by helping create a new habitat.
The team, from the Press Office, Internal Communications, Public Affairs and New Media, cut and replanted 2,500 reeds at Brandon Marsh Nature Centre, near Coventry.
The reeds will form a new habitat for bitterns, which are becoming increasingly rare in the UK.
Isobel Hoseason, Head of Communications, said: “Every year we try and have a day of volunteering for a good cause and this year it was planting reeds.
“Luckily the weather held and I think the whole team enjoyed what was a tough but very rewarding day for a very good cause.”
A special welly decorating competition within the team was won by Press Office Assistant Emily Highmore, who took home a bottle of champagne.
