20 May 2004 00:00 East Midlands children learn safety in the city

Children in the East Midlands can now find out how to stay safe in the region’s cities by logging on to Central Networks’ innovative Power Discovery Zone website.

Updated every month, the fun and educational website now includes a safety spotter challenge designed to test youngsters’ knowledge and to teach them how to stay safe on city streets.

The specially designed safety spotter section points out dangers to look out for and what to do in an emergency.

Central Networks Safety Adviser Jerry Carnell said: “The Power Discovery Zone website is a great way for kids to learn key electrical safety messages while also having fun.

“The safety spotter challenge is fun for children of all ages and includes simple but effective messages, while also clearly explains the dangers that can be found in the city. The challenge is designed as a game to keep children’s attention and to ensure they understand the vital safety advice.”

The Power Discovery Zone also includes fun games and a jargon buster to help children understand key electrical terms and phrases – a great resource if they need help with their science homework.

Kids can also become scientists and make their own torch or electrical quiz game with the help of the power projects zone.

Jerry said: “Kids in the East Midlands can learn more about what’s going on in the Power Discovery Zone by logging onto www.powerdiscoveryzone.com. With jokes and a great competition too, there’s loads to do on the website.”
