15 March 2004 00:00 Kids in the East Midlands plug into the electricity safety message
They’re quite small, have three prongs and children across the East Midlands use them everyday when they want to play with their computer games, use their stereos or watch the TV.
Plugs! A clever little device that ensure we’re safe when we use electricity in the home, and now kids can learn how they work through East Midlands Electricity’s innovative Power Discovery Zone website.
As part of this month’s update to the fun site, children can click on to the Fact File and explore the different parts of the plugs and see how they are used throughout the home.
The informative fact file uses animation to illustrate how they work and warns children of the dangers of misusing them.
Jerry Carnell, EME Safety Adviser, said: “The PDZ message to kids is to treat plugs with respect - always handle them carefully, never use them if either the plug or the cable is damaged and never take a plug a part.
“It’s important that children learn this important safety lesson in a safe environment. By including games and experiments we hope to encourage children to log onto the site and take away safety messages, which could save their lives.”
And the site is designed to mix safety messages such as these with fun.
Jerry said: “If children haven’t already checked out the website, now is a great time to learn more about electricity and how to stay safe around it as well as having fun too. Log on to www.powerdiscoveryzone.com for more information.”
