19 January 2004 00:00 EME’s footy fans get the goals and the pennies rolling in for charity
East Midlands Electricity (EME) has presented a cheque for over £5,500 to the NSPCC after a charity football tournament.
More than 100 EME staff members played in the annual five-a-side tournament, raising £2,800, a total that was then matched by the company.
Twenty one teams took part in the event, held at the JJB Sports Centre at Pride Park in Derby. The event was played in mixed teams, with an extra goal awarded to each team with a female player who played for at least five minutes of every game.
Bob Taylor, Managing Director of EME, said: “The tournament really was a great success and I was delighted to be able to present such a big cheque to what is a very worthwhile cause.”
Jenni Cowlishaw, from the NSPCC, said: “I’d like to take this opportunity on behalf of the NSPCC to thank everyone at East Midlands Electricity for all their support.”
Throughout the year EME gets involved in a range of community activities. Recent events have included a charity football match, the donation of a van to local charity RuralWEB and a charity fund-raising talk for Cancer Research UK.
