13 January 2004 00:00 Children fight aliens and learn electricity safety tips on EME’s Power Discovery Zone

Nigel the friendly robot needs saving from the aliens and children in the East Midlands can come to his rescue by logging onto East Midlands Electricity’s innovative Power Discovery Zone safety website.

Nigel, who features in a new exciting game on the site, is part of the monthly update to the educational site which teaches children how to stay safe around electricity.

Nigel is stuck on a spaceship and players need to guide him through the maze and away from the nasty aliens.

Also this month children can become mad inventors! A new experiment showing children how to build their own electromagnet has been included on the site.

Youngsters can follow the simple instructions on what to do and learn how electromagnets are used in every day life.

Jerry Carnell, EME Safety Adviser, said: “This month the site includes lots of fun things for children to do.

“The Nervous Nigel game is very exciting and the new experiment will be fun for children to follow and complete.

“The Power Discovery Zone website was designed to be fun but also educational. By including games and experiments we hope to encourage children to log onto the site and take away important safety messages, which could save their lives.”

Children also have the chance to win a fantastic X-Trex radio controlled racing game by answering a question on thunderstorms.

Jerry said: “If children haven’t already checked out the website, now is a great time to learn more about electricity and how to stay safe around it as well as having fun too. Log on to www.powerdiscoveryzone.com for more information.”
