08 January 2004 00:00 EAST MIDLANDS ELECTRICITY TEACHES KIDS HOW TO STAY SAFE ON THE STREETS

Youngsters in the East Midlands can now find out how to stay safe on the streets by logging onto EME’s exciting Power Discovery Zone website.

The website’s safety on the streets safety spotter page is a fun and interactive way for children to learn what to do to stay safe during the day and night.

It explains the importance of street lights and warns kids not to tamper with the lights’ electrical equipment. Children who tamper with the equipment could be seriously hurt.

Youngsters are also urged to stay away from roadworks and warned not to cross the safety barriers if they are left unattended overnight. The uncovered works could prove dangerous if children trip and fall.

The site also explains why traffic lights are important, why we use street signs and how the police use CCTV cameras.

EME Safety Adviser, Jerry Carnell, said: “The power discovery zone website is a great way for kids to learn key electrical safety messages while having fun too.

“The interactive page includes simple but effective messages and clearly explains the dangers that can be found on the streets for children, while at the same time they can enjoy the fun to be had by clicking on the different pictures and icons.”

The power discovery zone can be found at www.powerdiscoveryzone.co.uk.
