11 December 2003 00:00 East Midlands Electricity adds an extra sparkle to Melton Christmas Pageant
When East Midlands Electricity got an SOS from the organisers of the Melton Christmas Pageant asking if the company could shed some light on proceedings, EME was happy to help.
At the 11th hour, organisers of the December 19 event had discovered that the power supply they were banking on was inadequate for their plans. So they contacted EME to see if the power distribution company that serves 2.4 million people on the East Midlands could help out.
Phil Wilson, Customer Operations Manager for EME, said: “The organisers were after a very specific portable generator to provide power.
“While we didn’t have that particular sort of generator – and the generators that we do have are on 24-hour standby in case of emergencies – we were happy to source one for the organisers and, as a sign of our goodwill, to foot the bill.”
The event takes place in Market Square in Melton Mowbray on the evening of December 19, and will feature a mix of theatre, parades and song, 400 children in procession, kings on horseback, shepherds with real sheep, a ‘real’ baby Jesus and an ascending angel Gabriel.
Pageant Master Mitch de Faria said: “We’d like to thank East Midlands Electricity for their help. We’re on a pretty tight budget so this generous and thoughtful donation to Melton’s Christmas festivities is very gratefully received.”
