01 May 2003 00:00 East Midlands Electricity bridge generation gap
East Midlands Electricity (EME) has made its service to customers even better by buying its first set of mobile generators.
The generators can be shipped within minutes to bring light and heat to areas across the East Midlands where it is proving difficult to bring homes back on power.
Martin Baker, Asset Operations Manager, said: "We obviously hope that no-one is left without power but, when that happens, our number one priority is to get everyone's electricity back as quickly as possible.
"These generators should help us to do that and so ensure that interruptions are kept to an absolute minimum."
EME's four field operating centres at Moorgreen in Nottingham, Sleaford in Lincolnshire, Hinckley in Leicestershire and at Northampton, will have three generators each, giving the company a total of 12 machines.
Initially, the generators will be kept at the regional field operating centres, but plans are underway for them to be located around the East Midlands region.
