01 February 2003 00:00 EME engineers bring 45,000 Lincolnshire customers back on power

EME engineers are working hard to reconnect the last few homes in Lincolnshire left without power after Thursday’s blizzard.

The engineers were out and about overnight until new snow showers made driving conditions too dangerous. They then returned to base, with some teams spending their second night away from home, while they waited for conditions to clear.

Bob Taylor, Managing Director of EME, said: “We’re very much on top of the situation now, all the major faults have been dealt with so we’re getting down to the problems where there are just a handful of homes without power.

“While we have more than a hundred incidents left to deal with we don’t believe that those faults will be too tricky or time-consuming and our engineers are moving pretty quickly today, helped by the fact that conditions are nowhere near as icy as they were.

“We’d ask all of our customers to bear with us, we’re doing absolutely everything we can to get them back on as quickly as possible.”

Some people who have had power restored might find that they lose power again for a short time during the course of the day as engineers switch circuits or switch generators off.

“This is nothing to worry about,” said Bob Taylor.

“It’s normal working practice and it helps us to get more people back on power and that’s got to be good for everyone.”

People who are worried about downed power lines or damaged transformers should report details to EME on 0800 056 8090.
