03 December 2002 00:00 EME expertise helping to save lives during firefighters’ strike
East Midlands Electricity (EME) has been asked by the Ministry of Defence to advise Green Goddess crews on how to avoid risk and ensure the safety of others when working around electricity.
EME produces safety leaflets for the Emergency Services and the Government has asked the company to provide one to those servicemen and women offering emergency cover during the current industrial action by firefighters.
Bob Taylor, Managing Director of EME, said: “We’re delighted to have been asked to help and have obviously done everything we could to offer advice to the armed forces.
“EME has been advising the Emergency Services for years and the leaflets we produce are widely used.
“The information being provided to military crews includes a step-by-step guide to rescuing people who are trapped or injured near power lines or substations. There’s also guidance on how to work safely near overhead lines and information on how to deal with incidents at substations.“
The leaflets will be distributed nationally this week.
“We’re more than happy to do whatever we can to help make everyone a little safer in these difficult times,” said Bob Taylor.
