01 June 2002 00:00 Launch of www.PowerDiscoveryZone.com
Youngsters can win a Sony PlayStation 2 and £1,000 cash for their school courtesy of East Midlands Electricity’s new website.
PowerDiscoveryZone.com is an educational interactive site featuring games and work projects teaching the basics of how electricity is produced and how to be safe when using it.
The Power Discovery Zone is the next stage of EME’s safety campaign and is being run in conjunction with the Power Discovery Bus, which is a mobile exhibition centre and workshop provided as a free educational resource to schools. The Power Discovery Bus was launched last year and has now been visited by 4,500 children at over 70 schools in the East Midlands.
Each year a small number of people are killed or injured in accidents involving electricity substations, pylons, poles and cables. East Midlands Electricity wants to make sure children are aware of the dangers and to educate them on how to stay safe while also having fun during the summer.
Jerry Carnell, East Midland Electricity’s Safety Advisor, said: “The aim of the site is to help children learn about electricity safety but also have fun while learning. We hope that the Power Discovery Zone website has the same success as the Power Discover Bus in delivering safety messages to young children.”
