Press Statement re: the Energy and Climate Change Committee’s report on EU Emissions Trading System

Commenting on the publication of the Energy and Climate Change Committee's report on the EU Emissions Trading System report, Tony Cocker, Chief Executive of E.ON UK said:

"We welcome the publication of this timely report and support the concerns the Committee has about the carbon floor price.

"The carbon floor price is a tax not an incentive and, because it applies only in the UK and not across Europe, risks a one-sided increase in UK customers' bills as well as a detrimental impact on UK industry.

"We believe that carbon prices higher than those under the EU Emissions Trading System are bad for customers, bad for the economy and do no significant environmental good. We would ask the Government to focus on improving the role of the EU Emissions Trading System as an investment driver, whilst driving low carbon investment through the targeted mechanism of Contracts for Differences."
