E.ON’s Melanie gets rowing to help Regatta in Northwich

Members of the Northwich Rowing Club will be able to continue to enjoy racing on the River Weaver thanks to a £250 donation from energy company E.ON.

Melanie Wakefield, of Northwich, has worked for E.ON for three years as a Management Accountant at Connah's Quay Power Station and is also Treasurer and Medical Officer for the club's annual regatta event, as well as fundraising events for the club throughout the year.

Melanie said: "I've been involved for over three years in planning Northwich Regatta, and I'm able to use the skills I use in my daily job as I look after the regatta accounts.

"The regatta is a great annual event as it helps to raise funds for the club, as well as giving the novice, junior and experienced rowers a chance to race on familiar water.

"This year the event is being held on Bank Holiday Monday 26 May, and we'd like to encourage as many local people to come along to support and cheer along the rowers on what promises to be a great day out.

"When I took up rowing five years ago, a lot of the other club members gave up their time to teach me, and helping to organise the regatta each year is my way of giving something back to the club.

"The money from E.ON will really come in handy as we need to replace some of the equipment on two of our boats as they are quite old and worn out."

E.ON UK donates grants of up to £250 to charities and not for profit organisations in recognition of any employee who has volunteered for more than 80 hours of personal time.

In 2007, E.ON donated over £41,000 to almost 200 organisations to recognise the efforts of staff who volunteered over 30,000 hours of their own time.
