E.ON employee gives Nuneaton rugby club juniors a kick start for the new season

Youngsters at Nuneaton Rugby Football Club will be able to enjoy rugby in all kinds of weather thanks to a £250 donation from energy company E.ON.

Shaun Roberts, 36, of Hartshill, has worked for E.ON for over 20 years, most recently as a Project Manager in Hinckley for Central Networks, E.ON's electricity distribution company for central England.

Shaun helps coach the club's under-nines and under-12s, and runs training sessions for the teams every Sunday as well as going to matches and tournaments.

"I've been involved with the club for quite a while now, since my sons decided to join the juniors," he said.

"In the beginning I just started helping out, but now I help coach a few of the teams with other dads, and it's something fun to get involved in as the kids really enjoy it.

"The money from E.ON will really come in handy as we need to buy some new equipment for the teams as well as some waterproof tracksuits, so the boys can still train on the field no matter what the weather."

E.ON donates grants of up to £250 to charities and not for profit organisations in recognition of any employee who has volunteered for more than 80 hours of personal time.

In 2007, E.ON donated over £41,000 to almost 200 organisations to recognise the efforts of staff who volunteered over 30,000 hours of their own time.
